Handcrafted by Mr. Taro Omori, a sixth-generation candle maker in Uchiko, Ehime Prefecture, together with his son Ryotaro, these traditional Japanese warosoku are made with all-natural materials and a time-honoured method passed down since the Edo period.

Each candle features a handmade wick of washi paper, reed pith, and silk, then carefully coated - layer by layer - with wax from the haze tree (a type of Japanese sumac). This slow, considered process gives the candles their distinctive taper and soft, tree-ring-like texture.

Warosoku burn cleanly with little smoke or soot, and no artificial scent. Their tall, gentle, and steady flame adds a calm, beautiful presence, whether used with a home altar, during quiet moments, or simply as a soft light on your table.

Size: 14cm
Burn Time: approx. 2hrs
Includes: Set of 2 candles
*Candle stand not included. Photo is for reference only.

Please note:
Made entirely from natural materials. Small surface cracks may appear but do not affect the burn. Minimal soot may occur depending on the environment.

Keeping the Light Beautiful

Warosoku candles leave behind a carbonised wick as they burn. To maintain a clean, steady flame, use a wick trimmer to gently remove the excess wick—leaving about 1–2cm at the base.
This small step helps your candle burn more beautifully.

how to sniff a Japanese Candle Warosoku

Gently Snuffing the Flame

Using a wick trimmer or a pair of tweezers, gently pinch the base of the remaining wick.
This helps extinguish the flame without creating smoke.

Warosoku - Japanese Candle

Warosoku are traditional Japanese candles made using natural materials and time-honoured techniques passed down for generations.
Each candle is carefully crafted by hand, starting with a wick made from washi paper and reed, then layered with wax from the haze tree. This slow, thoughtful process gives the candles their signature gentle flame and soft, flicker-free glow. Every candle reflects patience, care, and a deep respect for nature and tradition.
